Privacy policy

Draft, under legal review. This page describes how BlindGrader works today. It will be replaced by a reviewed version.
Who we are
BlindGrader is an early-access tool that helps instructors grade PDF assignments with AI after student names are removed. Questions about this policy go to support@blindgrader.com.
Student submissions
- When you load a ZIP of submissions, the files are opened and redacted in your browser. Each page is redrawn as an image, typed names and email addresses are covered, and each paper gets an anonymous code.
- Student names, file names, the original PDFs and the list matching codes to students stay in your browser tab's memory. They are cleared when you close or refresh the tab.
- To grade, the anonymous page images, your answer key and your grading instructions are sent through BlindGrader's server to the AI provider you select (OpenAI, Anthropic or Google). BlindGrader's server does not save them.
- Automatic redaction can miss identifying details, such as a name handwritten in an unusual place. You are responsible for reviewing the anonymous previews before sending them for grading.
AI providers
Grading requests are processed by the AI provider you choose, under that provider's API terms and data policies, using the API key you supply. Check that your use of the provider is allowed under your institution's policies.
API keys
You enter your own API key for each session. It is sent with each grading request through BlindGrader's server to the provider. BlindGrader does not save it on the server or in your browser's storage.
Pilot requests from this website
If you request a pilot, we collect your name, email, school or organization, and anything else you choose to enter in the form. We use it only to reply to you and to set up and run the pilot. We store it in our hosting provider's database, don't sell it, and will delete it if you ask.
Hosting and technical data
BlindGrader runs on Cloudflare. Like any website host, Cloudflare processes technical data such as IP addresses and browser details to deliver and protect the site, and keeps short-lived operational logs. We don't use advertising or analytics cookies.
Students and children
BlindGrader is used by instructors. Students don't use it directly, and it isn't directed to children.
Changes
We'll update this page when how BlindGrader handles data changes, and change the date at the top.
